A Curated Life

Who doesn’t want to be surrounded by beautiful things?

The things we accumulate over the years often speak to us and tell a story about who we are. But what happens when you open your closet and find that what’s inside no longer represents the person you’ve become?

We tend to hold on to things as though our world would fall apart without it.

We tend to hold on to things as though our worlds would fall apart without it. The easiest thing would be to collect and store items in the hopes that one day they will once again serve a purpose. The hard part would be to invest in time to root through our closets – our lives – deciding what matters most as we fill box after box with the things that no longer suit us.

When we curate our lives, we choose the things that we want to keep – the things that reflect the person we are in the moment. We preserve what we think we’ll come back to in the future and remove the things that just don’t speak to us anymore (looking at you, bedazzled jeans).

If we proceed thoughtfully, we can curate our lives to reflect who we are.

If we proceed thoughtfully, we can curate our lives to reflect who we are.

So, how – and where – do we start?

Look around. Your closet, your fridge, your relationships – nothing is off limits when it comes to determining whether the things you hold onto are joyful and provide meaning.

For your closet, that could mean getting rid of old clothes (again, say goodbye to those bedazzled jeans). Ask yourself whether the relationships in your life make you happy or stressed. And now could be the perfect time to shift toward healthier eating habits – rummage through your fridge to determine if those frozen dinners are holding you back.

Curating your life doesn’t have to be hard. It can be as simple as identifying the things that truly matter and shelving (or disposing of) everything that doesn’t. You’re worth the time it will take to ensure your life is exactly how you want it to look and feel.
